EJ Shu's experience supporting community strength spans a broad range of fields, including health and wellbeing, community safety, disability services, maternal and child health services, aged care, family and children’s services, social capital promotion, multicultural and settlement services, and the development of customised planning frameworks. Evaluation

Vancouver School Board—Settlement Workers in Schools Program (Canada). Formative evaluation and development of a Quality Assurance Framework.

Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) (Canada)—Promoting Access to Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Diabetes Resources for BC Ethnocultural Communities. Formative evaluation of this community health promotion and information dissemination project.

Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) (Canada)—Engaging BC Ethnocultural Communities in Promoting Healthy Living/Healthy Weight. Formative evaluation of this community health promotion and education project.

British Columbia Persons with AIDS Society (Canada) (with Community Solutions Planning and Evaluation). Development of a Performance Measurement Framework.

University of British Columbia, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy (Canada)—Promoting Mental Wellness on Campus: Mental Health Awareness Event 2009. Process and outcome evaluation for this pilot mental health community- and peer-education event.

City of Banyule (Australia)—Banyule Health and Wellbeing Profile (with Brendan Carins Consulting). Analysis of demographic and health data relating to key areas of social concern and vulnerability.

City of Port Phillip (Australia)—Development of a Revised Home and Community Care Fee Policy for Residents with Complex Needs (with Brendan Carins Consulting). Analysis of demographic and population projection data, and comparative evaluation of Port Phillip HACC service delivery structure and fees.

City of Darebin (Australia)—Darebin Early Years Facilities Planning (with Brendan Carins Consulting). Analysis of demographic and spatial analysis of early years service and demand, and review of key policy trends and issues in the provision, funding and location of early years services.

City of Brimbank (Australia)—Brimbank Gardens Community Centre. Report on community visioning workshop report and community needs analysis.

Adult Training and Support Services (Australia)—Report on Need for Overnight Respite Accommodation for People with Intellectual Disabilities in Whittlesea (with ASR Research Pty Ltd). Preparation of comprehensive Issues Paper to guide review.

City of Melbourne (Australia)—Strategy for a Safer City 2004-2006 (with ASR Research Pty Ltd). Preparation of comprehensive Issues Paper to guide review, identifying existing and emerging health and safety concerns in the City.

City of Brimbank (Australia)—Brimbank Youth Services Contract Review. Service review and evaluation, and preparation of recommendations for future service delivery.

Planning

Victorian Dept of Planning and Community Development; Community and Social Planners’ Network (CASPN); and LGPro Corporate Planners Network (Australia)—Embedding Community Priorities into Council Planning: Guidelines for the Integration of Community and Council Planning (with Brendan Carins Consulting). Best practice research, policy and planning context analysis, and development of guidelines for improving and streamlining government planning processes.

City of Brimbank (Australia)—Developing the Social Capital of Brimbank: Family and Community Services Framework and Action Plan 2006-2021 (with ASR Research Pty Ltd). Development of framework and fifteen-year action plan to guide effective collaboration between Brimbank City Council and its local social service organisations.

City of Brimbank (Australia)—Developing the Social Capital of Brimbank's ‘Strengthening Communities’ submissions. Preparation of grant submissions to the Department for Victorian Communities, successfully securing $748K in State government funding.

City of Moreland (Australia)—Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2005. Collation and preparation of a strategic plan to support Council's internal sustainability objectives.

Macedon Ranges Shire (Australia)—Aged and Disability Services Strategy 2005-2008. Preparation of a strategy to respond to the current and projected needs of older people and people with a disability. 

Macedon Ranges Shire (Australia)—Indigenous Foundations Plan 2005. Design of a capacity-building plan to help foster meaningful engagement between Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the Dja Dja Wrung and Wurundjeri peoples.

Macedon Ranges Shire (Australia)—Refugee Welcome Zone Plan 2005. Strategy to support the Shire in welcoming refugees and enhancing cultural and religious diversity within the community.

Macedon Ranges Shire (Australia)—Family and Children's Services Strategy 2005-2008. Preparation of a Municipal Early Years Plan to guide service coordination and delivery for children aged 0-6 years.

 

Knowledge Exchange

Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) (Canada)—AMSSA Research Connections (ARC) E-Portal. Design of e-portal architecture, development of site text and preparation of research summaries to support the work of front-line immigration and settlement workers.

UBC School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) (Canada)—Habitat Exchange. Research, writing and editing (including creation of style guide) for this online research portal designed to support planning and community development professionals worldwide.
